From $7 to $53,000: My AI-Powered Survival Strategy After Losing Everything

A shut-in’s transparent journey of using Vibe Coding and Generative AI to reclaim life from depression.
I’ll be honest. I am doing this for the money.
I don’t have the luxury of speaking in platitudes. Living in a rural area, battling depression, shut-in, and unemployed — I have no workplace to go to. My only window to the world is this laptop, and my only ally is Generative AI.
Currently, my monthly income from writing is 1,000 JPY (approx. $7). It’s a humble, almost invisible start. But it is the first time I have earned money through my own creation since my life collapsed.
The Goal: 8 Million Yen ($53k)
Why 8 million yen? Studies often suggest that emotional well-being rises with income but plateaus at around $60,000–$75,000 (roughly 8M JPY in Japan). For me, this is the “Price of Freedom.” It is the amount needed to eliminate the “unhappiness caused by lack of money.”
My immediate milestone, however, is much more grounded: 110,000 JPY ($730) per month. This is the minimum required for a dignified life in the Japanese countryside.
The Engine: Visualizing Death
When I was at my lowest point with depression, the only thing that felt real was “Death.” Not as a philosophical concept, but as a physical countdown.
Paradoxically, this became my strongest engine. If I’m going to die anyway, I might as well try to win my freedom first. This realization led to two AI-powered projects I am currently developing:
1. The “Death Timer” (Visualizing Mortality)
An app that visualizes exactly how many days, weeks, and years you have left. By seeing the numbers dwindle, I force my brain into a “No time to waste” mindset. It’s a survival tool built from my own struggle.
2. CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) App
A tool to objectively observe and correct distorted thinking patterns. Using Vibe Coding (natural language-led development), I am transforming my therapy experience into a digital product. It’s still a prototype, but it’s my path back to society.
Transforming Despair into “Literature”
I am not just writing a diary. I am documenting a human experiment: “Can a person with zero career prospects, using AI as an extended brain, reclaim economic freedom?”
I use Gemini and Claude to architect my strategies, write code, and draft stories. I’ve integrated Stripe into every part of my workflow because I believe my value should be reflected in cold, hard numbers.

An Investment in a Human Experiment
At the end of this post, you’ll find a link to support my work.
This is not a donation. Think of it as an investment in a survival log. Your support directly fuels my ability to keep coding, writing, and living for one more day.
I’ve recognized my mortality, and that’s why I can no longer afford to hesitate. I will earn. I will live. That is all.
